Hello Friends!

It's Christmas time!

Can you believe it's already here? Only 22 more days until Christmas!

The girls and I are having a great time singing Christmas songs and decorating. I try to include them in everything thing we do no matter how big or small the job. I hope to make magical Christmas memories with them as my Mom did for me.

I couldn't resist these adorable little grain sack stocking from Maria's wonderful shop Dreamy Whites. I had a vision of them hanging from my antique French bottle rack and it's everything I hoped for and more--i just love them!

To complete this Christmas vignette on my antique desk, I added a galvanized bucket with a euro tree, an antique candle holder passed down from my family and Dutch butchers twine (also purchased from Dreamy Whites Online).

My daughters will be performing in two shows this weekend, a Rudolph ballet recital and a special Christmas show at their pre-school. This will be my youngest daughters first ballet recital. I will definitely be needing a box of tissues this weekend!

A Thanksgiving Table Setting

Hello Friends!

Happy Thanksgiving to you! I'm sending out my best wishes for a fantastic Thanksgiving early because I will not be back before Thanksgiving!

Since the Thanksgiving holiday centers itself around the dinning room table, I thought it would be a great time to put together a table setting to share with you!

I used a vintage grain sack towel as a runner and then added my gorgeous anthropologie taper candle holders. To add some warmth to the table, I used my new vintage english tea cups I bought from French Larkspur. They are a beautiful shade of brown and remind me of the newer monogrammed mugs from anthropologie. I decided I was truly in love with the color after seeing Lara's post on Chai Tea and Pumpkin Muffins... you'll have to check out her post to see what I'm talking about. I'm enjoying drinking coffee from my new tea cups every morning!

Instead of drinking out of the tea cups for this occasion I used them as vases and added colorful roses to them. I used my French antique plates that I had picked up at an antique store and I've also added my favorite drinking glasses from Anthropologie. Napkins are traditionally added to the side of a the plate but I tucked mine in between the salad and dinner plate. A naturally shed antler was a perfect fit for this setting.

Oh, I almost forgot... did you notice my blue door? I forgot that it had a pretty light shade of grey on the back side. I added hydrangeas to a basket and hung it on the door. It's the same basket my daughter used in her little red riding hood photo shoot.

I wanted to let you all know that you are on my list of things I am thankful for! I am so grateful to have company like you in my life! Thank you for spending your time with me and leaving me such thoughtful comments! You sure know how to make a girl feel good!

Dear Santa...

Hello Friends!

Here is a tribute to the upcoming holiday season, hopefully it's not a little too early!

I am overfilled with joy in anticipation for Christmas this year.

Having two sweet angels who believe in the magic of it all makes it very special.

Today the girls scribbled letters to Santa Claus and what you read on their pictures is what they told me they wanted. I thought it would be a cute way to remember what they had asked for in the years to come. I used the online editor picnik to add text to my photos.

Thank you girls for you infectious laughter during our photo shoot today!

Handmade Wool Button Scarf

Hello Friends!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

We did a lot of celebrating this weekend! We attended my best friends wedding which was beautiful, simple and meaningful... loved it--Congrats Shelby and Erik! My daughter's friend had a magical 2 day birthday celebration at Disneyland and we hurried back Sunday to make it to my nephews 5th birthday party. I'd say Mom and Dad are a little tired after this weekend but it was all worth it.

The weather is chilly outside and it makes me want to create things with my own two hands to keep my family and myself warm. This year I'm hoping to expand my skills past a beanie and a scarf.

I crocheted the scarf I'm sharing today for my daughters darling little girlfriend 4th birthday. She is quite the little princess who loves to wear her accessories. Yay, I thought to myself, an excuse to run to the store and splurge on some quality yarn. My only mistake was not buying two skeins. One skein wasn't enough to make it wrap around and stay. I went to my jar of vintage buttons and hand-sewed a large button on one side to keep it from falling off. It wasn't my first intention but I think it turned out ok.

I recycled the tissue paper I received in my package from French Larkspur the other day and wrapped the handmade scarf in it. Isn't the tissue paper pretty? I just love it! I tied it with some white twine I bought at Home Depot and added a tag with a stamp that reads "handmade with love." It adds a sweet touch to the package, don't you think? I bought the stamp a few months ago for a $1 at Michaels.

Rose Pine Cones

Hello Friends!

I hope everyone is having a good week!

Last week my girlfriend and I took our little girls for a mile-long hike behind her house and I happened upon two of these lovely rose pine cones.

Nature walks are so good for re-engergizing and restoring balance, not to mention the cool stuff you find along the way!

They almost look like they were carved out of wood, don't they?

They actually come from the tops of Deodar Cedar Pinecones and when they fall to the ground, they break apart and look like this.

One of natures amazing gifts!

I thought I'd share some personal things going on in my life right now...

I started training for my half marathon this week... woohoo!

My sister just gave birth to her fourth child, a baby girl named Colbie. I'm hoping to get some photos of her soon.

My childhood best friend is getting married this Friday on 11/11/11, eek!

Between now and the end of February, my family has 12 birthdays. It get's pretty busy around here during the Holiday season!

I've picked up my crochet needle again : )

Also, I know everybody reads Maria's beautiful blog Dreamy Whites and it was such an honor to be mentioned on her blog. Thank you Maria! Maria is super talented on so many levels, gorgeous, and the sweetest person. She's got a giveaway going on her blog right now that you don't want to miss!

My Blue Door Decorated For Fall

Hello Dear Friends!

Happy November!

Today I'm sharing my decorative vintage blue door in full Fall decor. This gorgeous wreath is made from real Oak leaves in some of Autumns most beautiful hues. I picked it up from the local health food store's floral department.

Completing the look is this scrumptious handmade knitted banner.

I fell in love with the knitted style banner after seeing my friends post.

I quickly requested one in fall colors (thank you Lori!).

Apple Paint Cups

Lane Farms Pumpkin Patch

I took the girls to the Lane Farms Pumpkin Patch to pick a pumpkin the other morning.

Love this pumpkin patch for its countryside feel.

It's got hay-rides, a corn maze and a few farm animals.

The farm is over 100 years old and hasn't changed at all, while all around it has matured.

They've got the greatest assortment of pumpkins and even squashes in all different colors, shapes and sizes.

You"ll definitely be in the autumn mood once you leave this place : )

Fall Mantle

Hello Friends!

I thought I would share my fall mantle with you this morning..

To create my fall mantle I used items I already had in the house in a different way.

I wanted to keep my mantle clean, simple and add some warmth to give it that fall feeling.

The three baskets were purchased from different places, the top one only cost a few dollars at a garage sale.

I love the way the three of them look stacked on top of each other.

I'm also loving the way the weathered wood frame looks against the white brick and I'm not the artist behind this chalkboard masterpiece.

It was so important to me when creating my fall mantle that I did something my kids would love too, and they do!

They love pointing to the characters on the chalkboard and telling me their names.

Together as a family we love to watch the Charlie Brown holiday classics.

The amber glass bottle is new and it's exactly what I needed to bring some warmth to my mantle.

Refreshing the Girls Bedroom with a little Halloween Fun

Did you all have a fabulous weekend? I sure hope so!

I've been moving things around, organizing, labeling, and getting rid of stuff lately.

Both my sister and my best friend are pregnant, so I seem to be picking up their "nesting" behaviours.

(haha, just kidding girls!)

I thought I would share some of the changes I've made to the girls bedroom.

I've added a barn star, pennant banner, a few pumpkins in honor of Halloween and re-purposed my French pie safe.

A Healthy Halloween Treat For Kids

I hope you are all having a wonderful week!

I'd like to say thank you to everyone for your beautiful energy! I deeply appreciate the kindness that comes through this little blog of mine!

I also wanted to say thank you to Kathleen over at Faded Charm for featuring my blog on White Wednesday and to Kim for featuring my tree stump coffee table at Wow Us Wednesdays!

I have a wonderful healthy Halloween treat I would love to share with you.

It was my daughter's turn to bring a snack to pre-school and

I wanted to do something fun, exciting and healthy that she could share with her classmates.

I picked up a ghost press-and-stamp cookie cutter at Williams-Sonoma and thought I would give it a try on some freshly cut apples.

It's really pretty simple to do:

Cut an apple into thin slices.

Using the cookie cutter, press down firmly to cut the ghost shape out of an apple slice and before removing the cookie cutter, give it a stamp.

Viola!

You now have ghost apples!

My kids kept saying "More ghost apples, please!" (This could also be a good trick to get your kids to eat healthy fruits!)

Wouldn't these make a healthy and cute snack at a Halloween party?

If you have any left over sliced apples, you can toss them in a delicious fall-inspired dinner salad, leave me a comment if you want the recipe.

Another cute idea is to use the pumpkin press and stamp cookie cutter on cheese.

It makes super cute orange pumpkins--we brought those to school a couple of weeks ago.

It rained cats and dogs here in Santa Barbara today so we broke out the rain boots and rain jackets. I wish it would get cold enough enough here to snow (sigh).

Jeanne d' Arc Living Inspiration

Hello Friends!

Have you discovered Jeanne d' Arc Living magazine?

I just love it!

It's filled with wonderful French decorating inspirations and ideas.

A quick flip through this magazine can inspire me to redecorate my entire house!

I just ordered a fabulous book called French Atmospheres by Jeanne d' Arc Living--it's filled with beautiful homes decorated in French style in a Nordic way.

After studying a look I liked in this book, I was shocked when I realized I already had many of the same items in my home!

I couldn't wait to put the book down and start "playing".

This white shabby chic desk was a gift from one of my generous girlfriends.

Her mother used it as a child and they thought of me when it needed a new home.

It was so very thoughtful!

The lovely little stool was a part of it too.

Many of you might recognize the cubby organizer from Pottery Barn.

It was so lonely packed up in my garage from our last move, so I ran out to the garage and dragged it inside.

I'm liking it propped up on the desk.

Quick note, it is fastened to the wall to ensure safety!

This little industrial table lamp made my heart swoon one morning at a flea market.

I bought it when I was still an antique dealer. About an hour after putting it in my space to sell, I ran back to the store and carried it back home.

Yes, this does happen to antique dealers.

I couldn't get it off my mind and the thought of it being sold broke my heart.

Here it is in my home now and I just adore it.

I have been thinking about turning my metal basket into a hanging light.

I was inspired when I saw one in New York City with a price tag of $1700.

The basket was a find at an antique show last February.

I have to give credit and thanks to Tracey over at French Larkspur for introducing me to the magazine.

It's a special day when I receive my package from her store.

Its wrapped up so pretty, I don't even want to open it (but I do of course)!

French Pie Safe

Hello Friends!

I wanted to share my beautiful French pie safe I found at the Long Beach Flea Market.

It's perfect for displaying my white ironstone dinnerware collection, one of my favorite treasures!

As nice as they look on display, we actually use them everyday!

I've used this pie safe for several different things throughout the year, but my favorite has to be using it for its intended purpose, holding and cooling pies!

It is a wonderful way to get the smell of autumn trailing through out your house.

Here is one of my favorite recipes to bake from Williams-Sonoma

Carmel apple pie

It is so delicious!

I also use Williams-Sonomas Emile Henry Pie Dish.

I think it's the best!

I'm really looking forward to getting some fall decorating done around the house and maybe I'll even get around to making a pie!

Tree Stump Coffee Table

Hello Friends!

Happy Labor Day to you all!

i am so excited to get this post up today and to finally share with you what i brought back from my Yosemite trip..

We had such a wonderful time and if you have ever been there before, then you'll understand when i say that it was just magical!

What i brought back was not something i purchased from any store but rather something i found.

With all the huge pine trees and pinecones that cover the Yosemite grounds, I was so inspired for the upcoming Fall.

i was lucky enough to come across a huge pile of old tree stumps on one of the trails behind the cabin we rented for the week.

It was instant for me, i knew they would have a new life in my home.

i sorted through the pile and picked out two of my favorites and carried them back to our cozy little cabin.

i've been on the hunt for a unique coffee table for quite some time now.

i was looking for something i could take out of it's original context and make my own or just something really special and different.

With the winter season around the corner, this coffee table couldn't be more appropriate.

Just last night we threw some logs on the fire..

we've been experiencing some cold and chilly nights here... burr!

once i got them home i made sure to check for little buggies...

and i also hosed them down.

My future plan for the winter is to change out the jute rug for a sheep skin rug

Just in case you were wondering..

My new authentic German grain sack is from Maria's wonderful shop Dreamy Whites Online..

it is the perfect accessory to drape over my couch.

The gorgeous taper holders and cute mini latte bowls are from Anthropologie

Today was official the last day of summer for us.

The girls start pre-school tomorrow.

it's going to be an emotional week for me with my babies gone at school, luckily they're only gone two days a week.

This will free up some time get some projects done and once again to come around and visit my favorite blogs and maybe even discover some new ones!

Chelsea Flea Market Find

Hello Friends!

i hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Two weeks ago my fiance and i were shopping at the Chelsea Antique Flea Market in NYC and

we came across this nifty little contraption called the U.S. Cook Stove Drier, introduced in 1893 and sold for $8.50! It was

used long ago by farmers to dry out fruit.

i love how unusual it is and how much character it brings into the room by using it as a side table.

the beautifully aged wood really warms up the room

NYC Adventure Part 2 and "the stylist guide to NYC"

I am so excited to be back and i have so much to share with you!

We had a wonderful trip to Yosemite!

it really got me in the fall spirit and i brought back a few things i'd like to share with you soon.

i'll start where i left off on my NY trip...

After stumbling upon Fishs Eddy and picking up a vintage tablecloth, we went the Farmer's market that was only a block away.

we decided on some apples, european cheese and freshly baked bread. After we finished our lovely treat,

we napped under the huge trees in Central Park..

it was hard to imagine what could top this moment until we headed to..

The Loeb Boathouse and rented a romantic row boat for an hour, fun!

After a wonderful afternoon we were back to the streets where we

admired street art

and stopped at tiny boutiques.

some were so tempting with pretty and sparkling things in the window

we shopped at indoor flea markets

(West 25th between 5th and 6th)

and outdoor flea markets

and tasted the coffee of NYC..

which was truly amazing coffee!

it was a designers dream!

it was filled with eye candy..

tons of antiques and vintage goodies!

even the walls and columns in this store were to die for!

"The Stylist's Guide to NYC".

i happened upon this terrific book at Anthropologie the day before i was to leave for NYC.

it had me at hello!

Dear friends, .. do not go to NYC without it!

it list the best shops in NYC, plus more!

This weekend i'm hosting my sister's baby shower...

i'm really excited and hoping everything runs smoothly!

New York Adventure

Hello Friends!

My fiance and i arrived early in New York, fresh off the red-eye flight to start our day at 7:00am.

We excitely gulped down some coffee and started our journey....

Our first stop was a street filled with flower and decor shops.

Remarkably, this "flower market" opens at 4am, we were able to enjoy all the sights and smells while the sun was still coming up!

We found a shop filled with Asian natural fibers, perfect for weaving, knitting, and crochet...

Their ready-made samples were beautiful!

I couldn't wait to check out this next shop...

We found a shop that manufactures beautiful mannequins--i've been dreaming of having my own mannequin for a long time now..

this mannequin pictured below has an interesting story, it actually survived hurricane Katrina and was returned to the store by its original owner.

we stumbled across this next shop on our way to the farmers market...

i think my eyes popped out of my head!

the timing couldn't have been any more perfect..

Chippy Metal Cabinet

Hello Friends!

Today I want to share with you my seafoam green chippy metal cabinet I found at a garage sale for only $8 dollars.

The lady i bought it from said she used to work at a veterinarian clinic and it was going to be thrown away but she rescued it.

It now stands proudly in my entryway and pairs perfectly with my sign.

If i sing the song "You Are My Sunshine" at any other time than at night, my kids will say, "it's not bedtime."

I've been singing that song to both of my daughter's since they were babies so i was excited to find a sign with the lyrics on it.

Vanity Makeover and Four Elements to My Design

Hello Friends!

Whether working on a small corner of a room or an entire room, there are four key elements i use when decorating. These four key elements are: old, new, feminine and rustic. All of these elements are either displayed on or surrounding my vanity.

When combing these four elements, i think it's the perfect balance of opposites--and these opposites attract! it creates the most beautiful space.

i have put together a list of the items in each category for you.

Some of these items may fit into more than one category.

Old: A European mirror, galvanized bucket, industrial stool, two glass lamps and a French book and clock

New: a fresh coat of paint, burlap lampshades and mercury glass knobs

Feminine: roses, a scarf, European mirror and rhinestones around the French clock

Rustic: a stack of wicker baskets and burlap lampshades

This is a lovely place to just sit and put on make-up. In addition to that, it's now the place where my girls climb up and play and spin around on--until its time for me to do their hair. Someday, that stool is going to stop spinning... and just because of that, i might let them spin a couple more times. : )

Here is a picture of my vanity before i painted it grey. i loved it white too! The overall vision of my bedroom make-over called for the new coat of grey. Hopefully i'll be able to reveal that soon!

i also took off the round mirror and replaced it with an antique european hanging mirror.

i will recycle the old mirror and have it cut to fit a frame i already have.

Fiesta is upon us here in Santa Barbara.

It's old tradition my family has been participating in since I was a kid.

French Antique Plates

I'll admit, I was a little intimidated entering my photos in the contest--it was the first time I've ever done anything like that before.

The goal of the contest was to capture the beauty of the ranch and the experience of "u-picking" blueberries.

The prize was 2.5 pounds of fresh blueberries, a jar of Santa Barbara Blueberry Jam and a jar of Santa Barbara Blueberry Honey.

While shopping in William Sonoma a couple weeks ago I came across a mini pie maker. It made my heart go pitter-patter because i knew my girls would light up once i brought it home and told them we would be making pies. So with my winnings, the girls and i made mini blueberry pies...

i also picked up a book called Mini Pies.

The girls eyes were big and their tummies were growling, they didn't want to wait for Mommy to do a photo shoot of their pies.

So i took them out, piled them high and snapped a quick photo.

Sling Chair Makeover

Today i want to share with you a little project i did over the weekend...

i re-covered my sling chair in one of my vintage french grain sacks. The blue and red stripes give the chair an elegant, beachy-chic look. I just love the way it turned out!

No-Sew French Grain Sack Placemats

Hello Friends!

This is a quick and easy no-sew project that anyone can do.

Materials and Tools needed:

Grain Sack

Scissors

Seam Ripper

Measuring Tape

Use your seam ripper to open your grain sack into one long piece.

if you would like a visual on how to open your grain sack into one long piece, go here.

Cut out a rectangle that's 19" x 14".

Make sure to cut off any hemmed sides.

Leaving a hemmed side will prevent you from getting that raw-edge look.

To achieve the raw-edge look simply throw the placemats into the washing machine.

Here's a little tip: if desired, use a pin to pull out more thread and if necessary use scissors to trim any unwanted thread.

i tied the placemats together with some thread and replaced a traditional bow with an old enamel clock face.

Wouldn't these make a lovely handmade gift?

Summer Table Setting for Two

First of all, i'd like to thank everybody for leaving me such sweet comments on my fireplace makeover, your comments really mean a lot to me!

My table setting was inspired by my grain sack placemats. Adding placemats is an easy way to dress up any table setting. i'll be sharing a tutorial on how to make these grain sack placemats in the next couple of days.

i found these beautiful vintage turquoise plates at a garage sale here in Santa Barbara. They look perfect as a salad plate over a simple white dinner plate. They are accented by antique silverware passed down from my Great Aunt.

The glassware and coffee mugs are both from Anthropologie.

in the center of the table a pile of uncovered old books act as a base for two vintage purple jars filled with freshly cut lavender from my Mother's garden.

For a little ambiance i hung tea lit mason jars from the tree and the French ladder adds a nice rustic touch.

My fiancé and i had some time to ourselves to enjoy the romantic space I had created. The fun part was we have a couple of things to celebrate..

i signed up to run the Disneyland Half Marathon with a girlfriend,

tied for first place in a photo contest (I'll be sharing more of that soon)..

and my fiance who is a real estate agent will be closing a big escrow next week!

i just can't believe how fast this summer is going!!!

A Fireplace Makeover

I love a cottage style home and try to create that feeling in my own home.

i look for white and neutral pieces to decorate with and love to bring in natural elements.

it keeps the home light, airy and refreshing and it also makes it is easy to decorate for any season or holiday.

Bringing in these two white outdoor folding chairs into my living room create a cottage feel.

The two French vintage hand loomed monogrammed pillows that are resting on my chairs are considered one of those 'it was meant to be purchases' since they have mine and my daughters initials on them.

When ever i find a piece of art i like it always has a hefty price tag to go along with it. For an alternative piece of art i hung an old window dressed with a sticker from the ceiling.

i bought the white chain from a local hardware store.

i like the simplicity of just having the window displayed on my mantel, for now. Maybe i'll get around to doing a summer mantle before summer is gone.

The day we moved in i went around and took pictures of everything so i could share before and after pictures.

Be prepared, it's not pretty!

I do dream of a different kind of flooring but for now this is what it is and i'm appreciative of all the things i do have!

Santa Barbara Blueberry Picking

I took my daughters to spend the day with their cousins picking blueberries at the blueberry farm located 30 minutes north of Santa Barbara.

What a fun and wholesome activity for kids.

Their little faces lit up while picking those fresh blueberries.

We decided we to bring the kids back every summer as a new family tradition.

i bought those adorable blue jean dresses my girls are wearing at Target last Spring.

i just love them!

i also love those little blueberry picking buckets so much so i even tried buying one. i've seen those little buckets for sale at Michaels so i asked if they sold their label stickers and they said "no.....

those are free"!

Score!

Now, i'm on the hunt for some perfect little buckets.

A Peek at My Dining Chair Makeover and a Vintage Ballet Dress

it was love at first sight... this vintage ballet dress was found at Round Top Texas by a dear friend who is an antique dealer.

The ballet dress will be beautiful on a mannequin in my sewing room as soon as i can find it one.

For now she is posing on one of my dinning room chairs.

When my chairs finally dried i brought one inside to see what it looked like at the table.

They still need a lot of work.... reupholstering, sanding and waxing but the transformation with a little paint made a huge difference.

i bought these beauties off craigslist for $10 a piece.

i can't wait to see what they look like completely finished!

No-Sew Grain Sack Runner

Hello Friends!

I hope you all had a lovely weekend!

The sun was out shining bright so we took the girls on not one but two bike rides this weekend. The girls ride on the back of our bikes, it's a lot of fun. This weekend i was also busy getting a few projects done around the house.

One of my projects involves re-designing my French grain sacks.

i thought before i started working on one, i would show you how simple it is to turn a grain sack into a table runner without any sewing--this is a total no-brainer.

Here's how ya do it....

All you need is a seam ripper.

Use the seam ripper to undo the seams on both sides of the grain sack.

After you undo your seams the grain sack will be one long strip.

My table is about 7 feet long and i think the grain sack opened is about 8 to 81/2 feet.

it could use a little bit of ironing but i don't think it's necessary.

The other project I worked on this weekend were my dining chairs. They're outside getting a little makeover. i'll share the dining chairs and another grain sack project with you as soon as they are both done.

Summer Gatherings

What better way to say hello to summer than with a cold pitcher of lemonade, a bundle of lavender, and being surrounded by those you love?

With the girls help (wink, wink) we put together a vintage table setting for a Father's Day gathering.

i love the contrast of the white ironstone dishes with the cream and blue table cloth which is actually a curtain panel.

Lavender and fresh cut lemons remind me of crisp white linen sheets hanging in the warm summer breeze.

This summer the girls and i will be having a lemonade stand with fresh blueberry muffins.

My breadboard is from White Flower Farmhouse.

i've gotten a few goodies from this store and i like to check back often because they are always adding new vintage goodies!

French baskets are one of my favorite things to collect.

Not only are they charming but also functional to tuck things into.

i love entertaining and hope to do it many, many times this summer.

Too bad all of you didn't live closer so we could lounge around and exchange stories.

Sarah over at Modern County Style is hosting a party called Kitchen Favorites so i thought i would share with you a couple of things i love in my kitchen.

What you see pictured above is a French copper ladle.

It was a generous gift that came all the way from France.

It has sentimental value because it will always remind me of my Mom's two French exchange students Justine and Camille.

Oh, how i wish i was in a Paris Cafe right now.....

i found this sign at a local antique store.

it's not an antique but i love that it's an old shutter repurposed and framed in metal.

A Darling Picnic Bench and Ruffle Table Cloth

isn't kid furniture the cutest?

i always find myself gravitating towards it when shopping at flea markets and antique shops. Who can resist buying an adorable little picnic bench, especially with two little girls? i thought it would be perfect for the girls bedroom and envisioned us using it to read, color and have tea parties.

Ever since i saw a picture of a ruffle fitted table cloth i wanted to try and make one for my own dining room table. it was much easier starting off by trying to make one for the girls picnic table first.

Did you know that Ikea is selling linen for $5.99 a yard? i was ecstatic to find that out and thought i would share it with you. They have a pretty grey that i'm hoping they get back in stock soon!

*please note that the table cloth has not been washed to get that nice raw edge and no strings or threads have been cut yet.

in a decorating book called French Home there's a picture of a similar ladder and it's called a French Fruit Picking Ladder.

i love this ladder!

it's currently displayed in my home's entryway.

i've also had it displayed in my dinning room before with my grain sacks hanging on it.

The girls are officially out of preschool for the summer. i'm looking forward to those warm sunny Santa Barbara summer days and hanging out with my beach bum and beach bunnies!

Ruffle Linen Bed Scarf

As promised here is a little more on the linen bed scarf...

it started out as just a piece of fabric

waiting to be turned into something beautiful

linen and ruffles is amongst some of my favorite things

i'm not an expert on sewing and didn't have a pattern or any directions, just a picture from French Larkspurs post. You can find the post here.

I'm sorry I didn't photograph my entire process to give you a proper tutorial but I hope you find my directions helpful. i also hope you feel inspired to make your own!

When i bought the fabric it was already 48" wide which was perfect size for a twin bed scarf.

1. i cut out a square 48" by 48" out of my 3 yards of fabric.

2. With the remaining fabric i cut 8 6" wide strips to make ruffles

3. Then i put my sewing machine stitches to as wide as possible and sewed my 6" strips straight across leaving 4" of thread on both sides.

4. Once you have done that you can gently start pulling on one of your 4" strings to make ruffles. Taking turns of tugging on both sides of the strings and having my ruffles meet in the middle i found worked best. You can adjust the ruffles to how ruffly you want them.

5. After i finished my 8 strips of ruffles i pinned them on all the way around my 48" by 48" linen square and sewed it on.

That was it!

Old White Country Cupboard

Hello Friends!

Do you remember when i said i had the pleasure of seeing Katie and her sons at the CALM Antique show?

i found this beautiful white country cupboard in their booth. i just fell in love with it! i love the original white paint and how the cupboard door looks like a barn door when its open.

it's in my sewing/guest room right next to my French daybed. it's perfect for holding my sewing and decorating books.

You may recognize the caddy holding 12 mini clay pots from Miss Mustard Seed's blog. My heart skipped a beat when i saw them--i had to to have them! Marian was so sweet to send me them to me in the mail. Thank you Marian!

i'm considering hanging the star above the cupboard with the word "dream" hanging underneath it. i also thought about the word "create" since it's in the sewing room.

What do you think?

i love giving things in my home a new life, like using this little french watering can as a vase.

i also thought i'd share with you a linen ruffled bed scarf i finished sewing last week...

i was inspired by Tracey over at French Larkspur. She did a post on her little girls bedroom and i decided to try and make my own ruffled bed scarf.

i'm still new to sewing so the stitching isn't perfect but i do like the way it turned out. i'll be sharing more of the ruffle bed scarf next week.

i've been away on vacation for awhile and i came back to find out some really cool stuff...

With a price tag of $150 on an authentic French bottle drying rack, i couldn't resist. Look at the patina on it... gorgeous!

My Mom bought me this beautiful French basket for Mother's Day. i also bought her a treasure she found at the flea market.

i hope the Rose Bowl Flea Market happens again on Mother's Day because we all agreed we would do it again. : )

i found this beauty at the Rose Bowl Flea Market on Mother's Day.

The ruffle duvet and pillows are from Urban Outfitters. i was lucky to pop into the store one day and find them 50% off.

A couple weeks ago i went to the May Madness sale at the Music Academy of the West and was thrilled when i found a pile of vintage white lace pillows. They are now a charming addition to my daybed!

French Letters and a Lucky Follower

Hello Friends!

Happy Monday!

In a fast paced and instant communication world, these letters are more than just pretty looks for me. It's the feeling of it being a lost art. Now seeming to be an ancient way to communicate these letters are a symbol of more simple times.

Oh, but they are beautiful....

It's fun to fantasize about what they say! If you could find out would you want to know?

Last night me and my fiance had a little dinner party for Justine and Camille the French students staying with my Mother. They were more than kind to read the letters and translate them for us. The anticipation while they were reading the letters was intense. When they laughed, I laughed with excitement. I couldn't wait to find out!

While I was hoping for a Romeo and Juliet letter I feel I got something equally exciting...

a baby announcement! The baby's arrival was 12-3-30.

There was also a letter from a bride to be asking her fiances parents to come a couple days before their wedding so she could meet them. His parents lived far far away.

A letter from a son to his father letting him know he received the book his father had sent and an important letter about how the towns baker died. The girls explained just how important a baker is to a small town in France.

My sister in law suggest that i find relatives to these letters and hand deliver them to their families. Could you imagine? What an adventure that would be.

And now for a lucky follower...

I put everybody's name on a piece of paper in a bowl and had my daughter pick one out. Thank you everybody who left me such wonderful comments!

The Girls Room

Hello Friends!

I thought I would give you a peek of the girls room.

i love the old white chippy wood frame around the chalkboard. if you don't already know Katie from All Things Beautiful In Time i'm sure you will soon. She has the most amazing junk and is super talented at displaying it. Her sons are following in her foot steps and have started Brothers of Industry. Brother's of Industry made this chalkboard for my little girls room. i had the pleasure of seeing all of them today at the CALM Antique Show and brought home some of their goodies.

10 years ago i was given a Reed and Barton silver tea set. it's tarnished so beautifully! i usually use pieces from the tea set here and there to hold flowers.

Both girls have antique iron beds. i paid $200 total for both beds. One of them was found on craigslist and the other from a great friend who is an antique dealer.

The girls bedding is from Bed Bath and Beyond from the Vintage Chic collection.

The weekend has finally arrived! I hope you all have the best weekend!

Newly Painted Dresser

Hello Friends!

First of all i would like to say thank you to all my followers!

it means a lot to me to have you here!

All your kind words are greatly appreciated!

(here is the dresser before)

This is one of those moments where your so excited to paint you forget to take a picture before you start.

Oh well, just imagine it dark brown.

This dresser has been passed down from my fiances side of the family.

it's neat to have a piece of furniture that's been in his family for so long in our home.

i just hope they don't care i painted it white.

This was a very simple and quick job.

i sprayed it with Kiltz primer and then just brushed on one coat of paint.

it looked so pretty i didn't want to distress it.... what's wrong with me?

i usually distress every piece I paint.

Maybe i'll get the urge to get crazy with the sand paper later.

i bought a couple of different knobs before liking these ones from Anthropologie.

On top of my dresser i have vintage French basket,

two French glass jars (the small one is a new addition from Dreamy Whites),

a French book, a vintage glass lamp and two balusters.

The lamp shade is a white linen from Pottery Barn.

My walls are so bare because we just moved in.

We are still figuring out where everything is going.

it will probably be a month or two before we hang anything.

i keep moving things around.

To show my appreciation to my followers i have decided to give a pair of my balusters away,

just like the pair of shown on my dresser.

Mother's Day and Finds at the Remnants of the Past Show

I hope everybody had a wonderful Mother's Day! Happy Mother's Day from our family to yours!

What a beautiful day to reflect on all things we appreciate about our Moms and for our children to show us their appreciation.

Ok, so, i feel i was super lucky to have taken home this super awesome farm table. i fell in love with it as soon as i saw it. i've been looking for the perfect sewing table.

i love everything about it!

i also picked up this grain sack from Euro Linens.

it was in great condition. Really pretty!

i was thinking about making a table runner out of it or i might just add it to my collection of grain sacks.

i thought this necklace was cool. My sweet fiance bought it for me as an early Mother's Day gift. i've been wearing it everyday! (thanks honey!)

The zinc pitcher is from Dreamy Whites online shop.

As soon as you open the door to pick up your package off the doorstep you can smell the lavender aroma. it smells so good! Everything Maria from Dreamy Whites does is so beautiful. From the first time i discovered Maria's blog my favorite thing was her zinc French pitcher. Now i'm a proud owner of my very own. Thank you Maria!

Old Blue Door

I hope everyone is having a great start to their week. We are still experiencing beautiful beach weather here in Santa Barbara.

i wanted to share with you one of the items i brought home from the Remnants of the Past show. You couldn't help but notice the door right when you walked into the show. it was draped in flowers and looked so pretty!

i love the color, the old key hole and of course the crackled paint.

i added an Anthropologie door knob to the door that I already had laying around just waiting to be used.

Remnants of the Past

Hello Friends!

I hope everybody experienced gorgeous weather this weekend. We were spoiled here in Santa Barbara with beautiful beach weather.

it made for a lovely day to have an antique show. The setting was phenomenal with the old barn and rolling mountains in the background. Many talented antique dealers gathered to sell their treasures. i knew before we got there i would be so overwhelmed that i'd forget to take pictures so i asked my fiance to please take photos for me. i think he did a great job (thanks honey)!!

it would have been great if we could have captured every booth to share with you, they were all so lovely! i did take a couple of treasures home and as soon as i photograph them i'll share them with you.

Chippy Antique Dresser

Hello Friends!

I hope everyone is having an awesome week!

i'm really excited about this new piece i got off of craigslist. i wrote the person 3 emails, not just 1. Yes 3. it was pouring out my finger tips. i couldn't type fast enough. After each email i had to express more about how much i wanted the dresser. After the third email i started to doubt myself and wonder if the person was going to think i was a creep. After all, i did say i knew where the person lived. i had driven by the house many times before. Have you ever wanted to knock on someones door to ask if they would sale something you saw on their property? i've never done it (yet) but always wanted to when i drove by this old victorian house. They had the dresser on the porch with plants inside the drawers. i could see the chippy paint from my car.

She said she had several inquires within the first hour she put it on craigslist. Then she said , "none of them had as much passion as you". : )

i've never sealed chippy paint before so i googled - seal chippy paint- and guess who popped up? None other than the talented Miss Mustard Seed. i've decided to link up with her furniture party. i'm excited for my first link up!

2nd Birthday Party

Hello Friends!

I sure hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! We sure had a fun one here!

We celebrated my daughters 2nd birthday here in our backyard. With the help of my Mother and a girlfriend i was able to give my daughter a party i had envisioned for her. We woke up to a beautiful crystal blue sky and our home was filled with the people we love and care about.

Hello Friends!

i have another quick post this week. My youngest daughter is having her birthday party this weekend and i've asked my mom to help me sew her a pretty ruffle table cloth for her birthday. i was lucky to find this tutorial here. The tutorial was a big help but my Mother ended up taking matters into her own hands. She's never let me down before so i just listened, watched and helped.

Last week my daughter went off to her first camp. it was an emotional day for me. i was excited for this day to come but right know it's reminding me of how old she is getting. i know, i know, she is only 3 most of you are saying but i can't help but feel this way. She is everything to me! it's going by too fast!

Her first packed lunch....... i had to make it special!

Flea Market Finds

Hello Friends!

How was your weekend?

We've been very busy around here packing but we did manage to get to the flea market. i don't have much time to post this week so this is going to be a short post. i have to say think you to our friends and family who have been so generous to offer to watch our girls this week. Thank you, thank you! Tonight is our last night in our old house. This will be my last post in my old house.

The old bench we picked up at a garage sale this last weekend for $10. it now sits in our new backyard just waiting to be used. isn't it a gorgeous view? i can't wait to spend my days and evenings here with the girls, my fiance, family and friends.

Crochet Beanies and Big Bear Trip

Hello Friends!

How was your weekend?

i think we have all done this before-while packing our house we find something we have completely forgotten about? In a brown paper bag i packed a long long time ago i found yarn, a crochet needle and an unfinished beanie. i have only crocheted a few things in my life... a handful of beanies, a blanket for my nephew and maybe a scarf or two. As soon as i found it i knew i wanted to make beanies for the girls. There were only a few rows left to be finished on the un-finished beanie and i hoped it would fit my fiance. it was exciting to know that we were going to big bear that weekend and he could wear it snowboarding.

We stayed in a lovely cabin on the lake. it was peaceful, romantic and rejuvenating

After a day of snowboarding we spent the evenings being cozy

i couldn't remember exactly how to start a beanie so i found this video to help refresh my memory. Before we left on our trip i took the girls to Michaels to pick out what color yarn they wanted for their hat.

i brought one of my daughters beanies with me on our trip for reference. i would check my measurements about every two rows. All i could do was hope they would fit once they were finished.

i'm hoping to take the girls up to the snow before it all melts away. i've got to hurry! The weather here in santa barbara has been rainy so, for now, they'll have to wear them inside.

i'm going to add on these felt flowers for extra cuteness!

Next weekend a flea market is coming close to town! i'll be going here. i Can't wait to share with all of you what great treasures i find.

Hello Friends!

I hope you are all having a great start to your week!

i'm anxiously awaiting moving into our new home so i can start decorating it. i have a lot of projects to finish before getting to the end result. i'm trying to have patience but it's so hard when your so excited. Since i'm working on a budget i have to be resourceful and thrifty. Flea markets, estate sales and craigslist are all great resources to get a great deal on furniture and home decor. i scored on craigslist over the weekend on two vintage chandeliers. i paid less then $200 for the pair. i can't wait to share them with you! My dream is to have a vintage chandelier in every room. i just love the way a chandelier makes a room look.

You'll be seeing lots of rust, ruffles, chippy paint and crystals in my home. They're all so yummy!

The girls had a blast at Princess Day at the Zoo with their little girlfriends. i had to share a couple of the photos with you.

Day Trip to LA and First Sewing Project

Hello friends!

I hope everyone is having a good week!

Last weekend my fiance's cousin played in a CIF soccer tournament in LA so we drove down there to cheer him on. A few days before, i found myself in Borders to purchase my second sewing book. i've been drooling over this book but didn't have the confidence to make any of the projects. The timing for picking out this book couldn't have been better because i learned that the author has a vintage and french inspired fabric store in Hollywood.

i wanted to buy fabric for a shower curtain pattern in the book but i couldn't make a decision quick enough. My adorable fiance was waiting in the car with our sleeping babies and there were so many wonderful choices! Don't worry, i didn't go home empty handed...... i fell in love with this bag as soon as i saw it.

i passed on a grain sack bag once at a flea market and i've been wishing for one ever since. Just a couple of weeks ago it was my birthday and my loving Mother gave me some birthday money (Do you still get birthday money from your parents? i feel too old! But i truly do appreciate it). "Mom, this is what i bought!".

i Love it! Thank you!

We enjoyed the rest of our afternoon with a bite to eat, more fabric stores and a special visit to a best friend who works at the Saks Fifth Avenue Sisley counter in Beverly Hills.

Finally, we had a gorgeous day here in Santa Barbara and i was able to "use" my first project (i say that lightly because with kids things never go as planned). i made these adorable picnic place mats for my girls.

There's a little pocket for a napkin and a holder for your fork and knife.

i decided to use two different fabrics for a two-sided design. Please don't make the same mistake i made and sew the pocket on after you've sewn the wrong sides together. Make sure you sew the pocket on first and then sew the wrong sides together--that way you won't see the stitching on the other side! Beginners mistake!

This is my first sewing book, One Yard Wonders and where i got the pattern. The projects are adorable and only require 1 yard. Even better, i found this great sew along that goes with the book and they will be making all 101 projects. Sure wish i could keep up!

Ends and New Beginnings

Hello friends!

i hope you all had a lovely weekend!

i'm not going to be sharing my sewing project with you today because there is something else i'd like to share with you this week.

Saying goodbye is never something easy for me to do. This week i had to say goodbye to a place i hold dear to my heart only because my adorable children deserve all my attention.

i became an antique dealer here last april. i've always loved interior design! You could always find me at Pottery Barn, an antique store or the interior design section at Borders. Once i discovered the world of blogging it taught me how to refinish furniture and repurpose junk. i was hooked!

With my fiance's support, i started out on an amazing journey as an antique dealer. Some of my most rememberable dates with my fiance were the ones we spent at flea markets. He would help me carry my new treasures and also keep an eye out for any junk i may have missed (thanks honey!).

In December the Carpinteria Magazine did an article on Whimsy Antiques. When i found out the background of the article would be inspired from the walls i painted in my space i was overjoyed! it was exciting when i had the first copy in my hands to see if there would be any pictures of my space...... and there was! Four pictures : )! Down below in the photos i'm trying to show you which pictures are of my space by pointing to them.

if you are ever in the Santa Barbara area you need to take the time to stop by both of Whimsy stores. i promise you will not be disappointed. They have amazingly talented dealers!

Here are a few photos of my space over the last year.

The best part of the entire adventure is the new friendships i made along the way. i think we all know those are better than any treasure we ever find.

Birthday Celebration

Hello Friends!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Last week i celebrated my birthday at the happiest place on earth. it brought me joy to know it would bring a weekend of smiles on the faces i love. My sweet fiance surprised me by staying here and had my room filled with birthday surprises before i even arrived (thanks honey!). This is one of the surprises.

You wouldn't have guessed it was early February after seeing the girls' adorable summer dresses and sun-kissed rosy cheeks.

Since the weather was so hot and gorgeous we spent a lot of time at the pool. The girls couldn't get enough of swooshing down the water slide. They even got me to go down the large water slide although the water was freezing. How could I not with them chanting "go mom!"?

i finished the 12 valentines for the girls' class.

My hopes of taking a class picture with the kids wearing their pins didn't happen but the girls were certainly proud and excited to bring them to class and that had us all smiling.

i am working on a fun project with my new sewing machine! i am hoping it will be ready to share with you next week!

Heart Felt Pins

Hello Friends!

What did i stay up all night doing?

Making these little guys for the girls!

It was one of those nights i knew i should have been snuggled in my bed sleeping but

i was too excited to see how they would turn out!

With Valentine's Day around the corner I was looking for a great idea for a Valentines gift other than candy. I searched the web and found these cute little guys from purl bee.

i didn't have any pinking shears so mine are cut with regular scissors. I added the girls' initials for fun.

i'll be making 12 of these for the girls' preschool class... I think i'll start now by making a few tonight. These are really fun and easy to make.

Another fun project i can't wait to make are these cute heart felt barrettes from the purl bee.
